BikeAllentown believes that cyclists should

at all times ride safely

and obey all PA cycling laws.

                                      Street Cycling
  • Always ride with the flow of traffic, not against it.
  • Keep to the Right side of the right most lane in your direction of travel.
  • Stay at least 3 feet away from parked cars (door zone)
  • Take the lane if the side of the road is unsafe, or has debris.
  • Be visible so car drivers can see you.
  • Use hand signals when making turns or stopping.
  • Obey all traffic signs and signals
  • Do not ride on Sidewalks
  • Yield to Pedestrians in Crosswalks
  • Wear a helmet
This is not meant to be a complete list of cycling rules.

For more information please review PA Bike Laws and

the websites at the bottom of the page.

                                 Trail/Park Cycling
When riding on multiuse trails in parks, BikeAllentown believes that

cyclists have a responsibility to go above and beyond the rules,

to ensure that pedestrians and other users of the trails have a

safe and enjoyable experience.

We believe these trails are to be shared, not "owned" by cyclists.

  • Stay to the right of the trail/path.
  • Announce your passing to other path users (bell or vocal "on your left").
  • Reduce your speed and pass on the left.
  • Move off the path when stopping.
  • Travel at speeds which are safe and appropriate.
  • Pay attention to the other path users.

A safe cycling course is offered by Bethlehem PA's CAT

organization and is approved by the

League of American Cyclists.

Of course, getting out and riding is the best way to learn

the rules of the road.

Join BikeAllentown for one of our casual bike rides, all our

welcome.
